Our Story
SmartInvest Ireland was founded in 2010 by Catherine Murphy, a veteran financial analyst with over 15 years of experience in global investment markets. In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Catherine recognized a critical gap in the Irish investment advisory landscape – a lack of transparent, client-focused services that prioritized education and long-term strategy over quick commissions.
Starting with just three team members in a small office in Dublin's Docklands, SmartInvest Ireland initially focused on helping small businesses optimize their capital reserves during the challenging economic recovery period. Our reputation for integrity and results-driven strategies quickly spread, allowing us to expand our services to individual investors seeking guidance in Ireland's evolving market.
A pivotal moment came in 2016 when we identified the emerging opportunities in Ireland's position as an English-speaking EU gateway following the Brexit referendum. This foresight allowed us to develop specialized advisory services for international investors looking to establish or expand their European presence through Ireland, significantly growing our client base and expertise.
Today, SmartInvest Ireland has grown to a team of 22 investment professionals serving over 500 clients across individual, family, and business categories. Our headquarters in Dublin's Fitzwilliam Square houses our comprehensive investment advisory services, educational workshops, and research department. Despite our growth, we maintain the same founding principles – providing personalized, transparent investment guidance that empowers clients to build lasting financial security in Ireland's dynamic economic landscape.

Founder & CEO
With over 25 years of experience in financial markets, Catherine founded SmartInvest Ireland with a vision to transform investment advisory services in the Irish market. Her expertise in strategic asset allocation and economic forecasting has helped hundreds of clients navigate changing market conditions. Catherine holds an MBA from Trinity College Dublin and is a Certified Financial Analyst.
Dr. James O'Brien
Research Director
James leads our investment research team, developing the data-driven analysis that informs our client strategies. His groundbreaking work on Irish property market dynamics has been recognized throughout the industry. Before joining SmartInvest, James was a senior economist at the Central Bank of Ireland. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University College Dublin.
